In My Closet

A light pink tee rumpled, tossed into the corner,
A black winter coat, lined with warm and soft fur,
And, bought from my school, a navy blue sweater
In my closet.

A heavy green textbook
Jammed into a nook
And - look! -
There's the overdue library book
In my closet.

My ratty old sneakers, worn out at the soles,
A Christmastime sweater with moth-bitten holes,
And a Halloween T-shirt with pictures of ghouls
In my closet.

There's the hat I've been looking for since forever,
The picture of me and my second grade teacher,
And a scarf that was knit by my dear, old grandmother
In my closet.
